Anchorage Retailers Offer Hassle Free Returns

ANCHORAGE - One of the largest shopping days in the country falls on the day after Christmas.

December 26th is known nationally as Boxing Day. Shoppers return retail items and cash-in on major sales.

Anchorage retailers were prepared for exhchanges, returns and last minute New Year's Eve shopping.

"We make sure that we have enough staff at the right hours to handle any potential increase in returns," said Norman Tate, customer service assistant manager at Fred Meyer.

Tate says most customers are making size exchanges during the days after the holiday. So far, returns have been lower than expected because of higher gift card sales.

"Customers are able to purchase the items that they want versus coming to return items they don’t want." Tate said.

According to the National Retail Federation 11 percent of all holiday gifts are returned, totalling which $60 billion worth of goods.
