Anchorage Stadium Proposed for Relocation
Anchorage's largest sports complex would get more parking spots under a proposal that calls for the relocation of Mulcahy Stadium.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska- Anchorage's largest sports complex would get more parking spots under a proposal that calls for the relocation of Mulcahy Stadium.
A parking shortfall has long been a problem at the Chester Creek Sports Complex, which includes Mulcahy Stadium.
A project estimated to cost $18.5 million calls for tearing down the existing baseball stadium and building a new one a block away at the current site of two smaller baseball fields.
The new stadium would have about 1,000 grandstand seats and informal seating for another 1,500 spectators. The current capacity of the 49-year-old ballpark is about 3,500.
The Parks and Recreation Commission approved the plan in November. A design report is being completed.
Construction could begin in summer 2015 if the project gets final approved.
