Animated Character Teaches Ballet and Life Lessons

Angelina Ballerina Program Available in Anchorage

by Victoria Taylor

For many young girls, becoming a bellerina is a right of passage. A new program at the Anchorage Music and Dance Center is partnering up with a computer-generated animated character, Angelina Ballerina.

Angelina is a fiesty mouse that has been loved in Britain for over 30 years and has been featured on a PBS Kids program that has now taken her across the pond.

She teaches young girls ballet, but also life lessons  they can take with them when the music stops and the curtain is drawn.

The whole series is focused on implementing healthy lifestyle choices, promoting self condfidance and enhancing social skills.

"The girls can relate to the Angelina character so when they hear her voice, they can relate and it helps them stay focused," said dance instructor Emily Gomulak.

The class teaches beginner ballet at two different levels and is targeted for girls between the ages of three and six. More information on the classes can be found at Anchorage Music and Dance Center.

Sounds like an outstanding programme!!! Dance lessons PLUS life lessons? Excellent idea--especially for those from single parent homes and/or lower income families. Who knows? Could be one of the next great ballerinas comes from Anchorage! I raise my glass (of soda) to it's success!!!
