Bears Prompt Closing of Popular Fairbanks Trail

by Associated Press

FAIRBANKS - A popular hiking trail at the Chena River State Recreation area near Fairbanks remains closed because of bears.

The Angel Rocks Trail was closed Sunday night after authorities received at least six reports of grizzly bears on the trail, all within a mile of the trailhead.

Park rangers say the bears were not acting aggressively.

To prevent injuries, rangers have closed the trail until the bears clear out. It will remain closed until rangers feel it's safe to reopen.
