Board Adopts New Redistricting Map
The Alaska Redistricting Board has redrawn the state's political boundaries and will submit the new map to a judge for review.
JUNEAU- The Alaska Redistricting Board has redrawn the state's political boundaries and will submit the new map to a judge for review.
There are some notable changes from the map used for last year's elections.
For example, the existing map took excess population from the Fairbanks area to create a district that extended to the Bering Sea. The map adopted Sunday instead creates a district that the board says is similar to maps prior to 2012.
The newly adopted map also makes changes in southeast Alaska, removing Petersburg from the Senate district that includes Juneau.
The Alaska Supreme Court in December ordered the board to redraw the map for next year's elections.
