Body Recovered From Nikolaevsk Fire Identified

Alaska State Troopers say a body recovered from a burned home in a Kenai Peninsula community has been positively identified as 46-year-old Andres "Andy" Afonasiev of Nikolaevsk.

ANCHORAGE- Alaska State Troopers say a body recovered from a burned home in a Kenai Peninsula community has been positively identified as 46-year-old Andres "Andy" Afonasiev of Nikolaevsk.


The body was found in the home in Nikolaevsk, an unincorporated community near Anchor Point.


Troopers say multiple callers alerted Soldotna emergency officials to the fire at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday.


Volunteers from Kachemak Emergency Services and the Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department found the single-story house engulfed by flames.


Troopers say the body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for identification and an autopsy.


A state fire marshal responded to investigate the cause of the blaze.
