Browder Pushes For ASD Curriculum Alignment

(Anchorage, AK)  Superintendent Jim Browder is gearing up to make some small changes for for the new school year, something reports say he hopes will help improve the performance of of Anchorage's students. The 64-year-old  from Florida took over Carol Comeau's position July 1st.

Along with study planning, he says some of his goals include: looking at a new Executive Director of Professional Development, helping teachers with the science of instruction, while they provide the art of instruction, and aligning curriculum.

"Based on the Board going to the Common Core {State Standards} which was a great decision by them, aligning that curriculum and making sure that it is put in place so the teachers have a real sense of where we are going," said Browder.

When asked if the current district budget is enough to implement his changes Browder says--absolutely, they will be able to operate in the confines of the current budget.

Browder will begin meeting principals  August 1st, the school year starts August 22nd.
