Alaska's film climate has changed dramatically over the last five years.

The state's film tax incentive program has brought outside interest over the last several years. Recently extended an additional 10 years, the program is expected to bring a more regular film and television shooting schedule for local professionals.

Filmmakers from the state have moved elsewhere to sustain a career in film and video, or have found other means to support the hobby.

Professionals who have been in the business for a while, say the tax incentives are the reason for a rising film and television community.

The film tax incentive program, enacted in 2008, gives a base 30-percent in tax credits, 10 percent more for the expenses covering Alaska residents and two-percent each when shooting in a rural location or during the off-season.

The current program ends next year in July when the new tax incentive program begins.
