FAIRBANKS- The Chena River is getting cleaner.

The city's main artery is pumping cleaner than it has in a generation.
The river has been on the state's list of impaired waters since 1990. The main culprits were petroleum pollution and then sediment pollution.
But the state says data collected in 2012 shows the river has now met standards.
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation in a release credits the public's awareness of erosion and stormwater issues and large erosion-control projects with turning the tide.
