UPDATE: DOT says the Seward Highway from Bird to Girdwood is now open. Travel safely out there!

(Anchorage, AK) Due to improving weather and roadway conditions the Seward Highway is now open between Potters Marsh and Bird Creek at mile 100.

The section of the Seward Highway between Bird Creek and Girdwood is anticipated to remain closed through at least noon on Wednesday. 

This went into effect at 5p.m. 1-10-12.

Today some Anchorage School District bus routes were canceled down Turnagain Arm early this morning due to white out weather conditions.

Officials canceled school bus service this afternoon as well due to an avalanche on the way to Girdwood.

For tomorrow [1-11-12] the following Girdwood routes are canceled for the morning:

Route 621 South High School

Route 622 Girdwood K8 School

Portions of the following routes are also canceled for tomorrow morning:

Route 27 Goldenview Middle School, the stops along Turnagain Arm are canceled only

Route 610 Oceanview Elementary School, the stops along Turnagain Arm are canceled only

Route 623 Girdwood K8 School will operate on the regular schedule.

ASD says-it will be in contact with the Department Of Transportation and will have its own safety crews on the roads and will continue to give updates.
