JUNEAU- A 23-year-old Coast Guard fireman apprentice has pleaded guilty to charges including attempted sexual abuse of a child and possession of child pornography and been sentenced to more than 4 years.

Christopher Cooley entered his pleas Friday at a court martial in Juneau, Alaska, and was sentenced by a military judge. The agency says he was assigned to a Sitka-based cutter when the offenses were first discovered.

Lt. Veronica Colbath says much of the conduct involved text messages and phone calls. She says the case involved three victims aged 11 to 16. Two lived in Alaska and one in California. She declined to provide hometowns for the victims.

Colbath says the investigation began in July 2012.

Cooley will serve his sentence at the Navy brig in Miramar, Calif.
