Back Up Line Also Had Issues
Alaskans are used to flight delays because of weather. Today a fiber network cable severed in the Seattle was the culprit that delayed more than six thousand Alaska and Horizon airlines customers.
The Sprint fiber network cable is what connects the airlines with "Sabre" the system that the carriers use for their reservations, checking passengers in and purchasing their tickets.
Flights were delayed across the 64 airport network on the west coast and in Mexico and Canada.
The service was disrupted at 7:30 a.m. and was restored around noon.
By noon Seventy flights had been cancelled and the airlines pre-canceled some of their flights between 2pm and 5pm to help get their operations back on schedule.
Sprints backup lines also had issues compounding the delays this morning.
If you had a flight booked on either Alaska airlines or Horizon for Oct. 8th or Oct. 9th you can re-schedule or get a refund.
