Denali Mauling Investigation ContinuesInvestigators Sort Out Tragedy
After two days of rain and poor weather conditions Denali National Park Rangers are back at the site of a fatal bear attack to continue their investigation.
Rangers were able to determine that San Diego resident Richard White had been taking pictures of the bear that eventually took his life Initial images found on a digital camera show the grizzly head down, browsing in berries some 75 yards from White. Later images show the bears head up, looking at and moving toward the backpacker. Estimates put these pictures at some 60 yards away from the surprised hiker. Park Rangers report that most of the backcountry units that were closed because of this tragedy are now open. Unit 10, where the attack took place will remain closed for the next few days as the investigation continues. |
