(Talkeetna, AK) Authorities request residents of Talkeetna, Alaska to evacuate as officials say flood waters are approaching. The Talkeetna river is expected to crest this evening, but the Susitna River will continue to rise according to officials, causing further flooding in the townsite.

Those who do evacuate are asked to check in at the Red Cross shelter at the Upper Susitna Senior Center, even if they have another place to stay, so personnel can keep track of who is safely out of the area. Officials say the shelter has places for people to sleep and hot food, along with room for pets. For more information or to donate to the flood relief effort call Red Cross headquarters at 907-646-5401.
