Fire Causes Palmer Community To EvacuatePALMER - In response to a grass fire Thursday afternoon residents of the Cedar Hills subdivision were evacuated. The American Red Cross set up Palmer Senior Center as a shelter. Local residents and businesses donated food items for displaced families. "So far we've seen coffee come in, and somebody offered us 10 pizzas," said Stephanie Bass of the Red Cross."it's exciting to see how many people helped locally." Bass said about 40 residents signed in to the shelter Thursday evening. "We've had people come in and simply ask what could they do to help," said Bass. Bass encourages people to join the Red Cross as disaster relief volunteers. As of 8:15 pm families with identification were allowed back into their homes. |
