FAIRBANKS- A fire at an apartment building has left more than 50 Fairbanks residents without homes, and fire officials were trying to account for the occupants of two apartments hours after the fire started Wednesday.

Assistant Fire Chief Ernie Misewicz tells the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner that as 10 a.m. Wednesday, there were still attempting to account for occupants of two of the apartments on the second-floor of a building on Geraghty Street.
He says there was also the possibility another person might have been in the building.
Another man was rushed to a Seattle burn center for treatment. Others were being treated in Fairbanks for more minor injuries.
More than 50 people have been displaced, and the Red Cross has set up a shelter at University Community Presbyterian Church.
