Firefighters Battle Blaze in West AnchorageANCHORAGE - Ten fire units were dispatched to a structure fire Friday, near the corner of Spenard and Valleywood. The third fire to break out in a week. No one was home, a neighbor reported the blaze to the Anchorage Fire Department. No one was injured in the blaze, however, the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family who are temporarily staying at a local hotel. "We still have to investigate, but it looks like it must have initially started in the garage near the boiler," said Capt. Jeff Briggs, Anchorage Fire Department. Capt. Briggs says the blaze was tougher than usual to battle. "It got in between the firewall..it's tough to get through those walls," he said. Officials say the fire took nearly 5 hours to extinguish. |
