First graders join Alaska animal day

by Derek Smith

Anchorage, AK-- For the next two days, the Alaska Zoo will see about fifteen-hundred first graders who are taking a break from their regular routine, to participate in Alaska Animal Day.

They will learn about Alaskan animals through hands on activities, event journals, and encountering their favorite animals.

"They get to have animals come out, so it's really important to get them engaged with the animals that they live with. It's a great introduction to live animals that they learn both in the school and of course in their back yard," Education Director from Alaska Zoo Stephanie Hartman says.
