Former City Budget Director Fills Vacant Assembly Seat

Cheryl Frasca Set to Serve for 90 days

ANCHORAGE-- Assembly members appointed former city budget director Cheryl Frasca to the vacant West Anchorage seat Tuesday. (1/15)

Frasca won the position, left empty, after Harriet Drummond moved on to serve the Democratic State House, with 6 out of 10 votes.

"But she does have to stand for reelection, this is an interim appointment," said assembly member Dick Traini.  "In other words, she has all the full rights and responsibilities of someone who went in front of the voters, but she has to go in front of the voters again this April."

Frasca beat out 6 applicants for the spot. There were originally 7, but former Anchorage School Board president Tim Steel allegedly withdrew.

Having worked with community groups and budget issues, Frasca says she believes she can bring a different perspective to discussions.

"The opportunities in OMB (office of management and budget), give you the opportunity to learn a little bit about a lot of things when you are making budget allocation decisions," Frasca said.
