JUNEAU- Gov. Sean Parnell has signed legislation creating an Amber Alert-type system for missing vulnerable adults.
HB59, from Rep. Max Gruenberg, is the so-called "silver alert" bill. It won broad bipartisan support in the state Legislature.
The measure calls for the state departments of Public Safety and Military and Veterans' Affairs to develop and implement response and notification plans to help locate missing vulnerable adults. A vulnerable adult is defined as someone 18 or older who, because of physical or mental impairment, cannot meet the person's own needs or seek help without assistance.

Sen. Johnny Ellis, a cross-sponsor of the measure, said in a release that the alert system had been a priority for numerous organizations representing senior citizens, veterans and disabled individuals.
