High radiation levels found at Kenai testing firm
A company licensed to use radioactive material for inspecting pipe welds has suspended operations in Kenai following a surprise inspection.
Reports say inspectors from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission found high radiation readings at the Kenai branch of Acuren USA.
A commission letter says inspectors walking around the company on the Kenai Spur Highway found high readings in areas where the public could be exposed to high radiation.
The commission says the company had no controls in place to keep people out of the area during radiography operations.
The company is in Kenai's Economic Development District. The commission says there was concern that workers in nearby offices could have been exposed to excessive radiation.
Acuren has three other Alaska offices.
