HOMER- The city of Homer is planning for a new Public Safety building that will house the police and fire departments and a jail.

The city council will consider creating a Public Safety Building Committee when it meets Monday. The committee would review and select proposals that have come for an architect and contractor to work together on the project. Bids were due last Tuesday.
No site has been selected.
The city has ranked the building, estimated to cost $15 million, as its No. 2 capital improvement project request to the Legislature behind water storage and distribution improvements.
If everything falls into place, construction is anticipated to start in 2016.
