Hostess Shutdown Closes Anchorage Bakery

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Hostess Brands says it is going out of business, closing plants that make Twinkies and Wonder Bread and laying off all of its 18,500 workers.
   
The Irving, Texas, company says a nationwide worker strike crippled its ability to make and deliver its products at several locations.
   
Hostess had warned employees that it would file a motion in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to unwind its business and sell assets if plant operations didn't return to normal levels by Thursday evening.
   
The privately held company filed for Chapter 11 protection in January, its second trip through bankruptcy court in less than a decade.

parents put the hostess twinkies and cupcakes their childrens lunch boxes for a special dessert, they a yummy special snack to have once in a while shame on you union workers shame on you, you dserved what you got -- job less

Way to go, Baker's Union!!! Rather than take an eight cent an hour cut in pay, you put yourself out of a job completely! On the flip side, kudos to the Teamsters. They, with the company's permission, examined the books and found the company was NOT bluffing and so informed the Baker's union. Here's a prime example of why most unions are not needed anymore. Now the bakers (and others that are not union) are out of work across the country and collecting unemployment. I worked at an Employment Security office in another state and found that if there were jobs available, I was not allowed to call the union workers 'cause their turning down a job would disqualify them from unemployment checks. Seeing as how union workers make more than your average worker, they were quite content to sit back and collect. Not to mention that they have deprived millions of Americans of some of their favourite junk/comfort foods!!!
