ANCHORAGE-- The Boys & Girls Club received 14 new cribs that meet national safety standards Wednesday.

"The number one for us is safety for our babies," said Jennifer Brown, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Boys & Girls Club Alaska. "We want to have the best, brightest, newest equipment."

Since the cribs were provided free of charge, Brown says the cost savings for the club was huge, coming in at around $7,000.

"That can go toward everything from program supplies, to food, to staff," Brown said.

More than 400 cribs are arriving this week, to be delivered throughout Anchorage and Eagle River, to licensed child care programs participating in thread's Safe Sleeping for Alaska's Babies Campaign.

It's an effort to replace outdated cribs with new products meeting national safety standards; more than 900 hundred are set to be delivered statewide.

"Part of thread's mission is to improve the quality of childcare and we know that the infant sleep environment is one of the best ways," said Stephanie Berglund, CEO of thread.

Starting December 28th, child care facilities, including family child care homes and infant head start centers--- must only use cribs complying with the new national safety standards.
