Shot Wife in Head Over Child in OCS Custody, According to Court Documents

ANCHORAGE---Spc. David Lopez faced a judge Thursday [12/13/12], for allegedly shooting his wife in the head, after officials took his child into custody-- following abuse allegations.

Police say the 24-year-old soldier from Rochester, New York, was angry at Sara Lopez, because he believed she had the Office of Children's Services take their 2-year-old away.

"OCS reported that he had called and said that he was going to come down and harm people or shoot them, with an AK-47 (rifle)," said Lt. Dave Parker with the Anchorage Police Department.

Lopez is charged with murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree, terroristic threatening in the second degree and resisting or interfering with arrest.

He reportedly joined the army in 2009, and was assigned to he 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in 2010; deploying to Afghanistan from December last year to October.
