Judge Backs Move to End Mandatory Phone Book DistributionRecycling advocates say less books means less wasteANCHORAGE - An administrative law judge is backing the move to end the mandatory distribution of residential phone books. Alaskan phone companies are pushing to stop the mandatory distribution of the book in a market where the directories have become less necessary. Still on the table is the option to keep the book in circulation, at the request of the individual consumer. Phone companies are required by law to distribute the white pages, but with nearly 40 percent paying not to be listed they want to stop production. The distribution of the yellow pages will continue. |
