ANCHORAGE- A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit brought by the state of Alaska against the federal government over fuel emission standards for large ships.

U.S. District Court Judge Sharon Gleason last week dismissed the lawsuit for lack of subject matter jurisdiction.

The state sued the Secretary of State and the EPA to block implementation of rules to limit pollution from large ships.

The state contended the rules will result in higher freight rates and most costly cruises, which will hurt the state's economy.

The Department of Law says it is considering an appeal.
