U.S. Attorney's Office: Koenig Case Killer Not on Suicide Watch

FBI Releases Time Line; Asks For Public's Help in Order to Identify More Victims

ANCHORAGE--- Confessed murderer of Samantha Koenig, 34-year-old Israel Keyes, was not on suicide watch this past week, according to the U.S. District Attorney's Office Monday.

Officials are calling Keyes, who allegedly took his own life over the weekend, while in solitary confinement, a serial killer.  Alaska State Troopers are investigating the death.
FBI released a time line spanning from 2001 to 2012 of Keyes' travels across the United States. During this time, authorities believe Keyes committed multiple kidnappings and murders.

"Now that Israel Keyes is dead, there is additional information that we are able to provide, including his confession to the kidnapping and murder of Samantha," said Kevin Feldis, Criminal Division Chief for the U.S. Attorney's Office. "As well as the fact, that after he confessed to that crime, in fact during his confession, we became convinced that this was not the first time he had killed somebody."

Officials say Keyes also admitted to the murder of Vermont couple Bill and Lorraine Currier in June.

"I believe Mr. Keyes planned all of his murders, when he left here in Alaska, he had planned to kill somebody,"said Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank Russo." It was just a matter of choosing his victims, he basically drove through Chicago all the way up to Vermont, where he got a hotel in Essex, went roaming around a neighbor hood and selected a house at random."

The timeline below is an outline of Keyes’ travels and whereabouts throughout the United States from 2001 to present. Due to Keyes’ pattern of traveling significant distances by car, the locations are grouped by region rather than specific states.
