Knik River Rd, AK-- "I just released it and boom the whole mountain side just cleared, smoke and rocks everywhere, it was pretty interesting," Knik River Rd resident Bob Huntsman says.
Long time resident of Knik River Rd Bob Huntsman released some of his frustration out this morning.
"They were suppose to get to it last year, but now it's good, good time now," Huntsman says.
Huntasman aided crews Monday morning by manning the trigger that disposed an inconvenient rock cliff hanging over a sharp curve. He says pulling out from his street was an accident waiting to happen.
"Because we can see up that hill when they straighten that corner out,. Yeah, that's a dangerous corner. It's a blind corner, you have no idea when traffic is coming." Huntsman warns.
Construction crews closed Knik River road temporarily Morning morning to proceed with a rock blasting.
Huntsman, along with the crew, shedded 10 feet off from the rock, improving sight distance for motorists.
"Yeah it's a dangerous corner. I'm glad they are knocking it out."
Another neighbor, who lives off the same intersection, added that for the past 25 years, the blind spot ends right into her daughter's bus stop. A terrifying thought that has her extremely concerned for her daughters safety.
"I have a daugher. That blind spot they are fixing has been troublesome. It's greatly going to help as far as safety goes and there is a lot of school bus activity and people going to work and things like that,' Twenty-five year resident Brenda says.
"It's very imporant to all the families that live up this street and we are always coming out and yea it will be safe," adds Huntsman.
As the two neighbors watch construction crews clear out the rubble , they can't help to feel that weight that's been so heavy, lifted off their shoulders.
"oh, I'm really glad they are fixing that. It will be a great safety change," Brenda says.
'I'm glad the project is under way and I get to watch it happen," says Huntsman.
