Local Boutiques Come Together for The Clare House

by Marissa Silver

Anchorage - Local boutiques around the area are preparing for a Cirque du Soleil themed fashion show which is happening this Friday to help out a local charity.

One local shop is helping to make sure the models look their best for the event, and says local businesses are having more of an impact than just helping out with the show.
"I'm a mom, I have a business, we deal with a lot of women here God forbid one of them end up homeless or something, it's great to give back, I mean it's great especially to a charity like this, it means something more to me," said Amber Mock who is the Owner of COR Cosmetics.
And that is the reason Mock has been involved with the Clare to Clare Fashion Show for the past six years, and she says the fact that it's all local boutiques helping out really benefits the cause.
"All those boutiques know different people, so they are getting people to show up for such a great charity," Mock said."They all have clients, they all have customers, they tell them about it, they tell their friends, they are raising awareness for a great charity."
The Clare House in Anchorage is a temporary shelter for women, children and expectant mothers. All the money raised through the Clare to Clare Fashion Show allows the house to provide for the families who seek their help.
"It's very, very important to give these women hope, I think that we all have someone that we know, that could be your sister, your aunt, your mother, you could experience or have a friend that has a need just for a temporary period of time and this fills that need., said Rita Corwin who helped coordinate the Clare to Clare Fashion Show.
Last year the event raised over 75,000 dollars and this year they hope to raise 100,000, and the money is...
"Just to care for these women, new clothing, food, opportunities for jobs, medical care, just to take care of them, it's a very, very expensive endeavor, last year over 500 families were taken care of," Corwin said.
The Fashion Show is this Friday at the Dena'ina Center, the doors open at 5:30 pm and the show starts at 7 pm.
