ANCHORAGE- High School Students joined The United Way and UAA sponsored Trio programs in a National Day of Service Monday.

This year Trio officials opted to educate and promote the 90 by 2020 initiative.

By the year 2020 Governor Parnell and organizations like The United way want to raise the graduation rate from 73 percent to 90 percent.

"we thought what a great opportunity to partner and work with our sister agencies in the community to accomplish the same goal which is support youth and their success in education," said Megan Tompkins, Advisor for Educational Talent Search, a Trio Program.

According to reports currently one in four students in Anchorage are not graduating on time.
