Mackey arrested for violating condition release

by Your Alaska Link News Team

A four-time Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race champion was arraigned Monday after a weekend arrest.

Lance Mackey will next appear in court on May 28 after he was stopped Saturday for a moving violating near Fairbanks.

Reports say Mackey was arrested for not having a valid driver's license or proof of insurance, violations of his release for a still-open case from last year, in which he was charged with driving under the influence and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports Mackey was taken to the local jail, but posted bail and made it in time for the Saturday start of the Denali Dog 140 race. He finished ninth.

Mackey didn't immediately return a message to The Associated Press.
