Man Arrested for Making Alleged Bomb Threats Near JBER

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A man has been charged with terroristic threats after an incident at one of the gates leading to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.
   
Anchorage police say 21-year-old Patrick Ferreira, who is a civilian, was taken into custody after allegedly throwing a package and making a reference to explosives at about 4 a.m. Monday.
   
According to APD spokeswoman Dani Myren, police say in a report that the package did not contain explosives. She says it contained a number of items, including a bottle of vinegar and an aerosol spray can.
   
Base officials say the Boniface Gate was closed for about two hours and a 500-foot area was cordoned off. They say the person that threw the package was apprehended a short time later and handed over to Anchorage police.
