Man Collides with Caribou herd, Then Vanishes

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers are searching for an Arizona man who collided with a herd of caribou, checked into a Fairbanks hotel room, and then vanished.

The Daily News-Minder reports ( ) that 66-year-old Keith Stompro hasn't been seen since Dec. 14.

Authorities believe Stompro has been in Alaska since early November. On Dec. 10, he rented a car in Anchorage and drove north on the Parks Highway, where he collided with a herd of caribou.

Since his car was totaled, troopers say Stompro then found a ride to Fairbanks and checked into Pike's Waterfront Lodge later that day.

Hotel personnel say he disappeared four days later, leaving his belongings in his room.

Stompro is 5-foot-9 and weighs about 165 pounds. Anyone who has information about his whereabouts should call at 451-5100.
