Man Dies After Rollover on Sterling Highway

A 65-year-old man has died after a single-vehicle rollover on the Sterling Highway.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska- A 65-year-old man has died after a single-vehicle rollover on the Sterling Highway.

Alaska State Troopers say Denver Hammons was heading north on the highway near Ninilchik Wednesday afternoon when he crossed the centerline to the southbound shoulder.
According to troopers, Hammons overcorrected and lost control of the SUV, which skidded back to the northbound lane.
Troopers say Hammons overcorrected again and the vehicle crossed back to the southbound lane, then overturned in a ditch, ejecting the sole occupant.
Troopers say Hammons was not wearing a seatbelt.
According to troopers, life-saving measures were performed, but Hammons was ultimately declared dead.
