JUNEAU- The Interior community of Manley Hot Springs has a new airport runway.
The state transportation department says it opened the new 3,400-foot long, 60-foot wide runway earlier this month. The department, in a release, says the longer runway will make passenger, mail and freight service possible with twin-engine aircraft. It says the old, shorter runway has been converted into a taxiway leading to an aircraft parking area.
According to the department, the new runway was a high priority for residents, since the Elliott Highway can be difficult to travel on during the winter.
