ANCHORAGE - An Anchorage Grand Jury indicts Bukurim Miftari, 21, on charges of 1st and 2nd degree murder, kidnapping and evidence tampering in the death of Kristen Reid, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Miftari is accused of shooting Reid in the head in the early morning hours of September 17.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, October 1.

This is developing story, check back for update.

Below is a press release sent, 2 days after the alleged shooting, by the Anchorage Police Department:

On September 17, 2012, at about 5:47 a.m., a citizen called 911 to report that a blue Chevy Tahoe was suspiciously parked in the middle of Fairbanks Street, north of International Airport Road. Upon arrival, officers found blood inside the vehicle and on the ground. A search of the area revealed a partially clothed female, later identified as Kristen Reid, lying in a ditch on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Reid was suffering from a gun shot wound to her head and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The APD Crime Scene Team processed the scene and located some of the victim’s clothing on the side of the road. They also recovered a handgun as well as the keys to the Tahoe in nearby bushes.

During the evening hours of September 16, Reid had visited a local nightclub where she saw her former boyfriend, Bukurim Miftari. Reid left the club at about 2:00 a.m. At some point during the evening, Miftari found Reid at an apartment; he brandished a gun asked her to come with him, Reid complied.

Detectives and officers from the Special Assignment Unit developed information on Miftari which lead them to a residence off of Old Seward Highway and Grange Street late Monday night. Miftari escaped out a back window when officers attempted to make contact with him. A perimeter was quickly established in the area while officers searched for Miftari. That perimeter was broken down at about 2:00 a.m. when officers failed to locate him.

Officers from the Special Assignment Unit conducted surveillance on friends and family members until they were able to establish phone contact with Miftari at his attorney’s office last night. He was taken into custody and brought to APD headquarters for questioning before being booked into the Anchorage Jail at about 7:45 p.m. (9/18)
