Since Thursday the Alaska Moose Federation salvage program has recovered 15 moose from moose vehicle collisions. The moose were hit on the roads between Talkeetna and Eagle River with four of the mishaps near Eagle River.

The Federation is urging extreme caution for motorists. With eight weeks of winter remaining the moose are getting hungry and the snow is deep. The volunteer organization is taking proactive steps in preventing these accidents, this weekend they'll begin building diversionary snow trails, allowing the large ungulates to roam the backwoods and reach further into the trees.

According to MFOA president Gary Olson "Our goal is to start felling diversionary browse trees like big birch trees and such so those moose can reach the food" The group also hopes to begin a diversionary moose feeding program once they receive clearance from Alaska Fish and Game.
