Moose Federation Saving Alaskan Lives

Keeping Moose off Alaskan Roads.

Tools

by Mike Ford

The Moose Federation of Alaska is proactive in keeping moose away from the highway.

Using their snowcats they are making  a number of diversionary snow trails, allowing the moose an opportunity to stay on top of the snow and reach higher browsing material.

A diversionary feeding program is also in the works in conjunction with the Department of Fish and Game. Modeled after past Alaska programs with some influence from Scandanavia (where they had a 46% reduction in collisions after implementing the program).

The Moose Federation encourages individual responsibility when you encounter a moose, especially with the extreme winter conditions yet to come.
