Murkowski Introduces Bill to Rename Mount McKinleyU.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski has introduced legislation to rename North America's tallest peak from Mount McKinley to Mount Denali.
U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski has introduced legislation to rename North America's tallest peak from Mount McKinley to Mount Denali.
This is the latest in a decades-long battle over the name of the mountain, widely referred to as Denali by Alaskans. For years, members of Ohio's congressional delegation have filed measures to retain the name of Mount McKinley; Ohio is the birthplace of President William McKinley. One such measure is also currently pending. Murkowski says opponents of a name change can continue to refer to the peak as Mount McKinley. She says all that would be changing with her bill is that the Alaskan name for the mountain would become the "technically correct" term for what is an Alaska landmark. |

I'm Alaska Native and it's Mount McKinley to me and always will be!

Go for it Lisa. Change McKinley back to Denali. Alaska natives stand up for your rights - you shouldn't be "just a tourist attraction". Ohioans take care of problems relating to Ohio - how would you like Kentucky to rename the Ohio River to Kentucky/Ohio River? Let's talk about the Greater Cincinnati Airport - it's actually in Hebron, Kentucky. Hello Denali goodbye McKinley.

Ohio should use a landmark in their state for McKinley. The Alaska natives have had to do enough changes. Now put the real name back as it was before some high and mighty politician decided to change one more thing that refers to our Alaska Natives They have rights too.
