Alaskas Senator Lisa Murkowski is once again taking the Environmental Protection Agency to task.

Alaskas senior senator claims the agency is more concerned with environmental justice for communities they are underserving than the welfare of Americans.

Murkowski says the EPA "Just doesn't get Alaska" and the challenges people of the 49th state have with the agency are repeated all over the country. Citing a recent example concerning the emissions control area or "ECA* for cruise ships and freighters that ply Alaska's waters.

EPA studies claim emissions are hurting the lichen that grow in the mountains near Juneau, which could effect the Caribou. Only one problem, there are no Caribou in Juneau. The closest Caribou is a thousand miles away, a point the Senator attempted to relate to her colleagues. "You would make the claim that a cruise ship sitting in Miami might affect the food for the bears that are up in the Pocono Mountains"

Murkowski pointing out the fact that 85 to 90 percent of all goods brought to Alaska come by maritime means. The Senator believes the cost of goods will go up between eight and twenty five percent over the next two decades if the low sulfer fuel requirments continue for vessels in the ECA.
