Musher Ken Anderson Prepares for Iditarod

WASILLA - The road to Iditarod continues as mushers, volunteers and race officials prepare for the official start this weekend.

"The hardest part of the race is getting to the starting line," said musher Ken Anderson who is competing for the 13th time.

His preparations include more than 2,500 training miles, several mid-distance races and countless hours planning for the race.

"When you leave the starting line, it's this exhale, believe it or not," said Anderson. "It's you, the dogs, there's no cell phones, that's your world for the next 10 days".

Anderson has 45 dogs and a little less than half of them are of racing age. He plans to start with 16 dogs which is a standard in the world famous race.
