ANCHORAGE, Alaska--- Officials tentatively named the 3 individuals killed in the Alaska State Trooper Helo-1 crash near Talkeetna as pilot Mel Nading, age 55, trooper Tage Toll, age 40 and Talkeetna resident Carl Ober, age 56.

In a press conference Monday (4/1), Alaska Department of Public Safety officials said state troopers responded to a call March 30th.  The call stated Ober suffered from broken ribs while snowmachining near Larson Lake.  At some point, radio communication with Helo-1 indicated Ober was located.

"It was requested that a ground ambulance be waiting at the Sunshine Tesoro in Talkeetna to meet up with Helo-1 to transport Mr. Ober to a hospital for treatment of his injuries." said Cmmr. Joseph Masters, with the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

Tragically, the helicopter never made it to the meeting, according to Masters.  Rescue aircraft located the helicopter wreckage near the south end of Larson Lake.

Col. Keith Mallard with the Alaska State Troopers likens the loss to that of losing a family member.

"Anybody that's lost a family member understands what I mean by that reference," Mallard said.  "Our hearts go out to the families of those individuals."
