ANCHORAGE---The local community around the Covenant House Alaska's new Homeless Youth Engagement Center on 755 A Street, got to check out progress on the building since it's May ground breaking, Thursday (2/14/13).

Both residential and business neighbors, took part in a hard hat tour of the facility designed to provide services and care to youth in crisis.

"I've been watching it go up all summer and have been waiting to get a chance to come inside and get a look at it," said local resident Gretchen Fauske.  "It definitely lives up to expectations, it's really beautiful."

The project is an upgrade from the old location on 609 F Street--going from a capacity of 20 beds to 60.  However, officials say there is still funds needed for the project.

"We have already been humbled by the support that we've seen in Alaska," said Lauren Rice Director of Public Affairs and Advocacy for Covenant House Alaska.  "To really provide kids not just a bed and not just an emergency shelter, but a space that truly communicates that we believe in them and that they have great potential for their future."
