A new e-tool that will help health care workers share health care information across Alaska is getting rave reviews after its initial test. The Alaska e-health networks health information exchange participated in the phase one pilot test in Fairbanks recently.

Doctors and Nurses involved in the study say the new technology goes beyond expectations. The health information exchange focuses on the mobilization of health care information electronically across organizations within a region or community.

Different health care systems will be able to share information to provide safe, efficient patient centered care. According to exchange participants the new system will result in increased patient safety, convenience, and privacy while also cutting overall costs.

The Exchange hopes to have the new e-tool available to all Alaskans by the beginning next month.
