New director of Sitka Historical Society named

A former principal and superintendent of Mount Edgecumbe has been named the new executive director of the Sitka Historical Society and museum.

SITKA- A former principal and superintendent of Mount Edgecumbe has been named the new executive director of the Sitka Historical Society and museum.

57-year-old Hal Spackman led Mount Edgecumbe from 1990 to 2003.
Before returning to Sitka to accept the historical society position, Spackman was education supervisor for Southcentral Foundation's The Pathway House in Anchorage.
He also has worked as an associate professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage and served as deputy commissioner of the state Department of Education and Early Development.
Earlier in his career, he taught school in Haines and Metlakatla, as well as in Thompson Falls, Mont.
The Sitka Historical Society is a 57-year-old nonprofit organization. It operates Sitka's historical museum.
