No Decision Made in Kincaid Park Snowmachine ProposalANCHORAGE - A group of snowmachiners presented a proposal Thursday, to the Parks and Recreation Commissioners to access Kincaid Park's motocross area. The Sno-X Lions club has asked permission to use the small section of Kincaid Park for snowmobile races. Some area residents and the Nordic Skiing Association are opposed. Association Director, Diane Moxness, says in the past snowmobiles have traveled on the parks groomed ski trails. Dane Ferguson, president of the Alaska State Sno-X Lions Club, says there is no other place within the Anchorage city limits to race. "The ultimate goal is to get a facility in Anchorage that is a true multi-use motorsports facility," said Ferguson. Ferguson says opening the park to the public will lead to an opportunity to reintroduce the sport to the residents of Anchorage. Overwhelming attendance and public testimony forced officials to postpone any action to the proposal until the next meeting scheduled for February 14. |
