Officials: High Crime Rate Forces Downtown Inn to Shut Down
ANCHORAGE - A downtown hotel known for being a hub for criminal activity will be shut down at the end of this month.
Mayor Dan Sullivan announced Tuesday, the Inlet Inn at the corner of Sixth Avenue and H Street will close by January 31.
Anchorage police and hotel officials say the building had been a safety concern for a number of years.
According to reports police had been visiting the establishment once a day on average for assaults, drunk calls, drugs and stealing.
Mark Pfeffer, one of the property owners, said the leased operator Boo Lee was not a responsible operator and they had no choice but to terminate the lease.
"their operations haven't been handled very well and after repeated warnings from us and police they haven't corrected any issues at the Inlet Inn," said Pfeffer.
Long term plans for the building will be to develop the property for commercial real estate, Pfeffer said.
