Online dating scams rise during Valentines day

 ANCHORAGE, Ak-- More and more people go to the internet to find love these days. 

 
     "It was match. com," Dorenda Barittan, online dater says. 
 
     But according to the Better Business Bureau, singles are looking for love in all the wrong places. 
 
       "I asked him if he had facebook and he said yes, and when I went on facebook, the profile had just been made," Barittan talking about a possible scammer. 
 
     The Better Business Bureau Regional manager Michelle Tabler is spending her Valentines day warning singles the dangers of online dating. 
 
 "Some of these people are making 15,000 a month with these romance scams, " Michelle Tabler says. 
 
  "He said he was in the military and we were talking for awhile, " Barittan says. 
 
    "It's a big red flag if they say they travel a lot or say they are with the military," Tabler warns. 
 
     Online dating has become quite the business. Over 41 million Americans using online dating websites in 2013. That generated to about 1.25 billion dollars in revenue. Experts say scammers will take advantage of their emotions and steal money. 
 
     "Eventually they will start asking for money. They say they want to visit you and will need money to do so," Tabler says. 
 
     In order to eliminate your chances of online romancing scams, Michelle says to do your research and google their information. 
 
     "So I tried to do research on him to find more about him. There wasn't anything to be found, " Barittan pointed out. 
 
     "Beware of the dangers of cat fishing, beware of anything you are doing online, especially in the online dating," Tabler warns.
