Parnell Administration Welcomes News On Fisheries ReliefChinook Runs Deemed Disasterous By Feds.
Governor Sean Parnell welcoming news from the U.S. Department of Commerce today. Aid will be made availble for Alaskan fisherman in need.
Acting U.S. Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank accepted Parnells recommendation for a disaster declaration for commercial fisherman on the Yukon and Kuskokwim rivers as well as in the Cook Inlet. The request came this summer due to low Chinook Salmon returns for those fisheries the past few seasons. Congress can now move to appropriate the needed funds to provide disaster releif. Parnell expressing appreciation for Secretary Blank's recognition of the severity of the situation. The Governor has already assembled a team of fisheries scientists to increase understanding of the causes behind the widespread decline. The Parnell Administration continues working closely with the Alaskan Congressional Delegation."Aggressively pursuing an appropriation to ensure our communities and fleets get needed assistance" Parnell said. |
